Pursuing Community Social Justice

The Oasis@Grace participated in Line the Avenue. Line the Avenue began in 2020 in response to and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement protests after the killing of George Floyd. As a Line the Avenue participant, members and supporters of the Grace and The Oasis@Grace stood outside on Hamilton Avenue every Sunday, from June through to the November 2020 election holding banners of activism and support and connecting with our neighbors and members of the Greater Cincinnati region that pass the church as they traveled along Hamilton Avenue. We had materials for voter registration and registered a few folks. The church is also a Hamilton County polling place.

We are willing to take the risks of trying new things. In the summer of 2019, we experimented with a program for girls called “Growing in Grace” to develop social and life skills.

Seeking input from College Hill community for its action plan, the Cincinnati Preservation Association held a listening session in our space. Beginning in 2020 The Oasis@Grace hosted Summer Camp Reading (official name) for rising third graders, which continues each summer during July.

Most recently, when Aiken High School students found themselves waiting for city busses in the heat and now cold weather, Grace opened its doors to provide water and a loving, watchful presence for the youth that wait outside for the City Bus at the busy intersection of Hamilton and Belmont Avenues. That ministry is on-going.
